HARUTA Shinsai

HARUTA Shinsai (1923-) Western-style painter. Born in Kagoshima Prefecture. Initially studied architecture but later turned to painting. After receiving acclaim for works exhibited at Nikaten, he was recommended by the Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Culture in 1963 and went to France. He has lived in Paris since then. He was invited to Salon de Realites Nouvelles and is a member of Salon d'autonme and others. For the opening of a commemorative cathedral in the city of Saint-Amand-Montrond in 2001 he was selected to hold a two-person exhibition with sculptor Louis Derbre for two months. After that, he received support from influential people such as former French President Giscard d'Estaing and the former president's wife of Académie de France. In France he is called the creator of batonism because of his preference for using vertical lines in his works, but it goes without saying that the essence of his works lies in the profoundness of their colors.

"Koki na Harmony." Oil painting. Created in 2008. The profoundness of coloring is the peak of Batonism. In a personal collection.
